1st assignment!

Ola! And so, we were given our very 1st assignment. I was excited, but nervous at the same time because the last time i actually drew something was like in sec school. So ya, when we were told to brainstorm on ideas and designs, I had a mental creativity block. Heh...

Even so, to my own surprise, I actually managed to get my hands to start drawing. It was hard at first trying to scrub the rust off my drawing 'skills', but as time passed by the designs seem to keep on coming. Since I'm very passionate about music, my first 'love' design apparently revolved around music. Here are my sketches:

I started by thinking about the 'conventional' side of music, such as classical music, instruments, musical notes and the likes (1st pic) . Then I ran out of ideas, and I wasn't very happy with the designs. So I broaden up the concept of music, and played around with stuff like guitars, amps and headphones (2nd batch). I realised that the 2nd batch was more 'me' so I focused on them and developed it into 2 bigger sketches:

After showing it to the class and listening to their comments (thanks so much guys!) I decided to go with the headphones one and this is the final product:

I was worried that the headphones would draw more attention than my name, so I used ordinary colours for the headphones so it won't stand out and highlighted my name in red. Added the little musical note in the end in case people think that I like headphones instead of music. Heh. Please please give your comments if any ya?

Since I couldn't decide on what I hate (because it keeps changing), I decided to do on a 2nd 'love' and that is sleeping! Hoho...this one I had more probems with because of its intangibility and it's not really a physical 'object'. Here are my 1st round of sketches anyway (I tended to draw 'zzz' alot):

Chose these 2 designs, and got quite a number of comments from my tutorial mates. Really appreciated! They helped me realise stuff about the designs that I would otherwise be oblivious of...like how the 2nd design seem to imply that like I like hair. Haha...so I decided to come up with a totally new design using a bed. I used blues-y colours for that dreamy/twilight feel. After another round of comments, I changed the colour scheme and got rid of the lines to make it look less like an airline seat.

Before/After:
Please leave a comment if you think it still looks like an airline-seat, or something else other than a bed, or if it is just downright ugly. Thanks and best wishes to all!
